Imran Tahir Scores Hat Tricks for 'The Hundred'

The Hundred’s first-ever hat-trick winner is Imran Tahir. Tahir took five wickets and the last three wickets in succession. Birmingham Phoenix beat Welsh Fire thanks to a hat trick.

In response to the fifty runs by Will Smeed and Moeen Ali, Birmingham Phoenix posted an imposing 185 run target. The Welsh Fire lost their first wicket with the seventh delivery of the innings and never seemed to be in control of the chase.

During his first spell, Imran Tahir took the wickets of Glenn Phillips and Leus du Plooy. After 40 balls, the chasing side was 55-4 after two win dismissals. It looked like the league leaders would win with their target seemingly out of reach.

In three consecutive deliveries, Imran Tahir won the tail order. In addition to being the oldest player in the competition, he also became the first player to score a hat-trick.

Tahir’s performance lights up Edgbaston

After dismissing Qais Ahmed, the South African spinner completed his hat-trick. With flight, he tossed one up, and Ahmed’s wild slog against the turn only led to a top edge that Smeed safely poached.

Tahir then delivered an arm ball straight at the stumps. Matt Milnes attempted a paddle sweep, but he was hit right on his pads. Therefore, the umpire did not hesitate to send the batsman back to the pavilion.

With his hat-trick delivery, Tahir bowled a google that breached the batsman’s bat-pad gap and struck his middle stump. The celebration that followed was a trademark of the player.

Running to the boundary ropes, he watched the celebrations from the full stadium. The franchise currently leads the points table with 8 points. After that, the second-place Trent Rockets will face them.
