Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has made a bold prediction for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Karthik, who has not retired from cricket yet, predicted who he thinks will win the most runs and wickets at the upcoming event.
ICC T20 World Cup 2021 will be held in United Arab Emirates and Oman from October 17 to 23. India was originally supposed to host the competition. However, the BCCI decided to host the event in the Middle East.
The ICC T20 World Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman for the first time ever. South Africa, England, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India had previously hosted the competition.
Dinesh Karthik played for the Indian team that won the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup. In advance of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman appeared on a digital show for the International Cricket Council.
Dinesh Karthik was asked which batsman would be the most successful on that show. He picked Rohit Sharma and David Warner before adding:
“Both of them open the innings. Both of them are solid players. I would put money on either one of them. Both are very hungry.”
Dinesh Karthik makes an interesting pick for best bowler
Dinesh Karthik answered the question of who will be the best bowler at the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021. He named KKR teammate Varun Chakravarthy and said:
“My choice is a guy called Varun Chakravarthy. I feel he’s got something really special in him. If India goes all the way, I can promise you this boy that I’m speaking about will have played a major role in them moving forward in this tournament. Remember the name ‘Varun Chakravarthy’.“
There are only a few days left until the T20I World Cup begins. Besides Australia and New Zealand, other countries will be soon announcing their squads soon.
Former cricketers and experts have begun predicting the winners. Brad Hogg on youtube has predicted India and England as favourites. Herschelle Gibbs, who is in Pakistan to play in the KPL, mentioned playing in India, Pakistan and England.
In addition to Sky Sports’ commentary team, Isha Guha asked Dinesh Karthik and Darren Sammy for their favorite T20I World Cup teams.
Dinesh Karthik backed India and West Indies for the title clash, while Sammy did not identify his favorites and only cited Andre Russell as the man of the tournament.
Moreover, Karthik said he would support West Indies if they do not face India in the final. He also admires the way the West Indies play their cricket in the T20 format.
Dinesh Karthik played his last international match during the 2019 ICC World Cup. Due to the presence of MS Dhoni, he didn’t get enough opportunities to prove himself as the side already had the wicketkeeping batsman. He later indulged himself in the commentary and cricket interviews.
As part of the commentary team for the inaugural ICC World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand in Southampton, Dinesh Karthik and Sunil Gavaskar were the only two Indians selected. Also during India’s tour of England, he served on the commentary panel. Additionally, he has interviewed cricketers.
He recently spoke with Indian opener Rohit Sharma. During the session, he revealed many secrets about the Hitman. His description of Rohit before his marriage to Ritika was funny. Karthik joked that Sharma used to cry when watching emotional scenes in Hindi films. Karthik shared a video of the same on his Instagram handle. Here is the video:
