West Indies Look to Show ‘Never Say Die Attitude’

West Indies squad, remembering Carlos Braithwaites last over match winning innings famously known as the ‘Remember the Name’ innings. Pollard, the West Indian captain, believes that will high will not affect the performance of the team in their opening match against England.

“In terms of personnel and bearing, to say it can have a big impact, I don’t think so. But it’s definitely going to be in the back of our minds. I thought what Carlos did in those four deliveries in that last over, it was unbelievable and it’s something that we actually as a team saw last night and it brought goosebumps back to us. For us to be back in that situation, to get over the line, it shows that sort of never-say-die attitude and we, as a team, look forward to replicating this entire tournament. Those sort of moments stick with us and hopefully we can just go out and play good cricket and get in a position and situation where we are actually in the final, so we can have some memories as well going forward. But having said that, I don’t think it will have much bearing on tomorrow’s game because it’s like another game of cricket as the situation was totally different – it being a final – but be that as it may, looking forward to coming out and show and give a good account of ourselves.”

After missing the finals few matches for Kolkata Knight Riders, Russell returned to play for the West Indies in the warm up match against Afghanistan as he took a wicket for 13 runs.

“As of right now, we have our last practice session this afternoon and will have a last look and see,” Pollard said. “If we’re confident for him Russell  to take the field… he played in that warm-up game a couple of days ago and it was just like a trial for him because he hasn’t played a cricket match in about three-four weeks, so there’s still some rust there for him, still needed to be a bit confident in his mind. But I’m sure even yesterday and a couple of days before that, he’s been working tirelessly behind the scenes to be fit.”

McCullum on not Playing Russell for the Final Match

In the second leg of the IPL it seemed like Russell had found his form back. It was good news for the Kolkata Knight Riders, until he had his hamstring pull. The injury took him out of the remainder of the tournament. This meant that KKR had to experiment and replace him in the playing XI.

Shakib Al Hasan, who has proved his worth in earlier seasons was picked. Although he has been vital for KKR before, this time his form was not consistent enough to give KKR that middle order balance they required. Especially with Captain Morgan’s form not being up to the mark as a batsman, KKR’s middle order was doomed to fail.

McCullum after the finals defeat said KKR “Couldn’t afford” picking a 80% fit Russell over any other player.

“Look, Andre, he obviously had a hamstring tear earlier on in the competition. He worked unbelievably hard to try and get himself available. There was still a risk there, and it was a risk that I felt in a final, we just couldn’t afford to take,” McCullum said at the post-match press conference.

Kolkata Knight Riders Make it to their Third Finals After 6 Years

With Gill and Venkatesh Iyer putting on a good performance, it seemed like KKR could cruise into the finals. The statistics were on their side, as Delhi Capitals had never defended a total less than 150 successfully.

Alas, the partnership broke at 96 runs. Rabada took back the control for Delhi, as they went on to take 6 wickets for 7 runs by the end. The Knights had fallen from a score of 96-1 to a miserable 130-7. The Capitals could have made their comeback and become the finalists for a second consecutive year.

But, Rahul tripathi wasn’t done. With 6 runs required off the last 2 balls, tripathi gets a ball at a good length which he smashes past the ropes. Making KKR the third and only team to get to the finals through the eliminator and qualifier II, after Chennai Super Kings in 2012 and SunRisers Hyderabad in 2016.

Now, the finals are set for the 15th of October in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium with the three time champions CSK taking on the two time champions KKR. Will it be a repeat of the 2012 finals? Or will the Kings find a way to slay the Knights?

Jason Gillespie Responds To Shane Warne’s Criticism Of R Ashwin

Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie slammed Shane Warne for labelling Ravi Ashwin’s performance in the Indian Premier League 2021 “disgraceful.” Ashwin was investigated for allegedly violating the Spirit of Cricket during the Delhi Capitals’ match against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Tim Southee and KKR captain Eoin Morgan were engaged in an argument with Ashwin. The incident arose after Ashwin attempted to sneak a second run after the ball struck Rishabh Pant’s arms. He received a lot of backlash from the cricket community and netizens for his actions. Former Knights captain Dinesh Karthik also addressed the issue at the press conference.

Why do we blame the player that plays within the laws of the game?' – Jason Gillespie hits back at Shane Warne for criticising Ravi Ashwin

Meanwhile, Warne was irritated when Ashwin attempted to grab the extra run. Morgan, according to the veteran, was well within his rights to criticise the DC off-spinner.

Warne took on Twitter to say, “The world shouldn’t be split on this subject and Ashwin.” It is simple: it is disgusting and should never happen. Why does Ashwin have to be that person again? @Eoin16 had every right to nail him!!!!

Jason Gillespie lets his guard down and opened up on the topic about R Ashwin

Gillespie, on the other side, felt Ashwin had done nothing wrong and followed the Marylebone Cricket Club’s rules.

“The world should not be divided on this topic and Ashwin. It is pretty simple- it is disgraceful & should never happen. Why do we blame the player that plays within the laws of the game? I believe players have every right to play within the laws of the game as set out by the MCC.”

“The ‘spirit of cricket’, and what constitutes this, differs from country to country, and in some cases, between states/counties/provinces/islands. The laws of the game are in place. Stick to them, and the grey areas within our game are removed.”

Later, Ashwin sent a series of Tweets in which he stood up for himself in the face of widespread criticism. Ashwin was again chastised in 2019 for running out Jos Buttler at the non-striker’s end.

Dinesh Karthik Predicts a Star Player for the T20 World Cup 2021

Varun Chakravarthy has made headlines for his shocking rise in professional cricket in the past few years. Not long from now, he will compete in the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Dinesh Karthik believes that the secret spinner would be a great addition to the T20 World Cup squad.

Despite all the odds, Chakravarty has an incredible story to tell about how he achieved success. The Tamil Nadu spinner caught the attention of the Indian selectors during the Indian Premier League 2020 in the UAE, which was played there unexpectedly. Kartik, the man who drove the Kolkata Knight Riders into the competition, encouraged the 29-year-old to succeed.

Chakravarthy took 17 wickets at a normal of 20.94 and an economy of 6.84 during the 13 matches he played in that competition.

Being the best bowler in the competition, he was given the opportunity to join the Indian T20I team. However, he kept failing his health tests, which prevented him from being called up to the national team.

Regardless, he made his T20I debut during the recent India tour of Sri Lanka. He got two wickets in three games, but he bowled at an economy rate of 5.30. Chakravarthy could be an unexpected surprise for India, as there is no clear choice for best spinner at the T20 World Cup.

Karthik discussed with Darren Sammy during the ICC Digital show just how crucial he can be to India’s chances for pushing ahead. Karthik said, “My choice is a guy called Varun Chakravarthy. I feel he’s got something really special in him. If India goes all the way, I can promise you this boy that I’m speaking about will have played a major role in them moving forward in this tournament. Remember the name ‘Varun Chakravarthy’, Mr Darren Sammy.

Chakravarthy has taken 27 wickets in 24 T20 matches. Due to his economy of 7.10, he is a very good pick.

During the IPL 2020, Chakravarthy demonstrated his bowling abilities, as he drove the KKR group.

In trouble at KKR; NCA Yet to Clear Varun Chakravarthy and Kamlesh Ngarkoti for Fitness

Varun Chakravarthy and Kamlesh Nagarkoti are still awaiting fitness clearances from the NCA before flying to the UAE in IPL 2021. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp has received unfortunate news just days before they depart for the second leg of the IPL in the UAE. Due to their injury histories, KKR’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy and pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti have been called up to the National Cricket Academy. They must pass fitness tests and receive a green signal from NCA before flying to the UAE for the remaining matches of the tournament.

Yes, Chakravarthy and Nagarkoti are here at the NCA doing their rehab cum fitness routines. I guess once NCA gives them the fit certificate, they will be flying with the rest of the KKR team to the UAE. Gill is still training here,” PTI report said.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, who suffered an injury to his left shin in the first innings of the Chennai Super Kings match, is in good condition to play in the remaining matches in the Indian Premier League.
