Cricketers becoming global at the global level following the COVID-19 lockdown. New Zealand cricketer Corey Anderson joined the USA. Sami Aslam, Pakistan’s opener, made the same decision. Liam Plunkett and Dane Piedt are probably next in line to join the USA team.
South Africa has lost a lot of players in cricket. In the past, players preferred to sign Kolpak Deals to play county cricket. In recent weeks, Devon Conway, who played domestic cricket in South Africa, made his debut for New Zealand. Jason Roy, born in South Africa, is also a member of the English national soccer team.
Former South Africa U-19 World Cup player Graham Hume has joined the list. He played for the Proteas in the World Cup. Hume has been named in the Irish ‘A’ squad for the upcoming Bangladesh tour. The Irish will be able to select Hume for their team in 2022.
After being informed of his inclusion in the Ireland Wolves team, the rising star could not believe the selector. Here’s how Hume reacted:
“It was a very exciting moment as I didn’t really expect to be going. It probably took a while to sink in. Also, knowing that I will be in the privileged position to travel at these strange times is something that I recognise.”
With 13 wickets, Hume was South Africa’s most successful bowler at the ICC U-19 World Cup 2010. Graham, however, decided not to continue his career there. As Hume makes his international debut for the Ireland cricket team in the coming years, it will be interesting to see how he performs. Paul Stirling faced Hume as a U-19 player.
