Kohli was seen speaking to Pakistan’s opening duo right after the match. Broadcasters also showed Team India mentor MS Dhoni in conversation with some Pakistan cricketers after the game and it sent social media into a state of meltdown.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took to social media to share a photograph of Kohli interacting with Rizwan Azam and captioned it as, “Spirit of Cricket! #WeHaveWeWill”.

Chasing a target of 152 runs, Pakistan reached 152 for no loss in just 17.5 overs. Openers Rizwan and Azam remained unbeaten after knocks of 79 and 68, respectively.

Earlier, India posted 151 for seven in 20 overs after making a disastrous start. Openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were trumped by pacer Shaheen Afridi with the latter getting dismissed for a first-ball duck. Meanwhile, Rahul could only muster three runs off eight deliveries.

He in his post-match presentation stated, “I feel ups and downs are a big part of any sportsman. I was also not in good shape. Most of our batters were not getting runs like in previous seasons.”

BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal downplayed reports suggesting that Virat Kohli would step down as a skipper following the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The Times of India reported recently that Kohli would step down as white-ball captain and Rohit Sharma would lead the team in ODIs and T20Is if India fails to win the ICC T20 World Cup in October or November.

However, BCCI treasurer dismissed such claims, quoting the IANS, he said, “This is all rubbish. Nothing (as) such is happening. This is all that you guys (media) are talking about. BCCI has not met or discussed anything on this issue (split captaincy). Virat will remain as the captain (of all formats).”

Virat Kohli’s failure to steer the team to victory in the knockout stages of the marquee ICC events despite having some of the world’s best bowlers and batsmen may mean Rohit Sharma will have to step up to lead the side in limited-overs cricket.

Since India’s loss to New Zealand in the World Test Championship final in England, where they were unhappy with Virt Kohli’s selection, BCCI top officials have discussed the issue. Kohli played a couple of spinners during the WTC final in overcast conditions that were seamer-friendly.
